What does the LCF aim for?
The development of the European Union in the post-war period has to be considered as an outstanding political, economic, social and cultural success. However, now Europe is facing an increasing international competition which demands new visions and future-oriented strategies to adapt successfully Europe’s models to the imponderability of uncertain future developments. By far the most promising approach to achieve the goal of a future-oriented Europe can be found in the Lisbon Agenda. In this Master Plan from 2000, the main objective was to make Europe the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-driven economy by 2010. So far the implementation has been extremely limited. The initiative of the Lisbon Civic Forum (LCF) is exactly aiming at this hot spot for the future of the European Union in a continuously changing world. LCF is convinced that without successfully implementing the ideas of the Lisbon agenda in a comprehensive way Europe cannot maintain its high economic, social and cultural standard.
The main objective of the LCF think tank is to contribute in several ways to a positive, well-understandable and clearly future-oriented vision of a Europe for Citizens. It also serves as a forum for an intense dialogue with civil societies in Europe. In other words, LCF is a platform for the development of innovative strategies for the future of Europe. This objective can be best met by focusing on a sustainable growth not only on an economic level, but also on a social and ecological dimension.
